Crypto currencies are the latest hype across the globe and it isn’t just large-scale global corporate companies that are getting involved.
Over the last few years there has been a rise in the number of crypto fanatics among the very rich and famous. From the likes of actors, musicians, athletes and entrepreneurs, they have all been drawn to the financial appeal of crypto currencies, with many owning substantial amounts of Bitcoins and other altcoins.
So who has invested and is profiting big time from digital currencies?
Richard Branson, most influential CEO of all time and founder of the Virgin Group, knows how to make the most of a good thing.
In 2013, Branson announced he would accept Bitcoin as a form of payment for his upcoming commercial space travel service, Virgin Galactic; six Bitcoin purchases for tickets were received.
“Virgin Galactic is a bold entrepreneurial technology. It’s driving a revolution. And Bitcoin is doing just the same when it comes to inventing a new currency.”
In 2014 Branson reportedly invested $30 million into BitPay, the payment processor that allows merchants to accept payments in Bitcoin. With his latest investment in 2018 being in Bitcoin service provider, Blockchain.
Co Founder of Microsoft, Bitcoin investor and philanthropist Bill Gates is yet another world class billionaire to join the crypto craze, and here is what he thinks about it,
“Bitcoin is exciting because it shows how cheap it can be. Bitcoin is better than currency. Bitcoin is a technological tour de force”.
You will know him firstly from That 70’s Show, and now it is no secret he is a keen technology investor. He was one of the first celebrities to join the crypto currency craze. He was already tweeting about Ethereum in May 2014, more than a year before it was released in July 2015.
Owner of A-Grade Investments, a venture capital firm, they have financed companies like Uber, Spotify and Airbnb. In their latest venture they have invested in BitPay, joining the likes of Richard Branson.
Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx has been heavily involved and keenly invested in promoting the crypto currency exchange platform, Cobinhood, a feeless crypto currency-trading platform.
Richard Sherman, Seattle Seahawks quarterback and businessman has recently announced that his online store, which is the only source of official NFL gear for men, women and kids, will accept Bitcoin payments.
Sherman wants to support an increasing number of fans that wish to purchase goods through this avenue and believes that,
“it is the currency of the future”.
Boxing legend Mike Tyson has gone into partnership with Bitcoin Direct, directly tying Bitcoin to his brand.
In late 2015, Bitcoin Direct introduced Bitcoin ATM, branded with Tysons image, followed by a digital wallet for Android and iOS in January 2016.
“I’m honored to join the Bitcoin revolution with my very first Bitcoin ATM,”
stated Tyson at that time of the launch.
